Free Editing Service for PhD/Doctoral Students
January 8, 2021
The following service is available free to Drexel PhD/doctoral students to assist with their writing projects, including thesis and dissertation.
As part of Technical, Science & Health Editing (COM 570 900), a course being offered this Winter 2021 in the Department of Communication and taught by Dr. Laurence Souder, students will be required to do some editing for real clients.
Dr. Souder is seeking current Drexel PhD/doctoral students who would like to take advantage of free, competent, short-term editing services for such documents as research proposals, research reviews, research reports, research consent forms, and dissertations.
The ideal project will require students in the class to:
- Consult with the clients to discover their needs
- Identify the clients' readers, purpose, scope, and type of document
- Negotiate workloads and deadlines
- Improve the client's written materials through proofreading, copyediting, and comprehensive editing
It is anticipated that students will need to consult with the client three or four times for about half an hour or so. Professor Souder will be monitoring the students' work. All interactions would fall within the 9-week winter term.
Previous response to this partnership between the University's PhD and doctoral students and Technical, Science & Health Editing graduate students was positive.
